Learn To Become A Better Parent To Your Children

Let’s face it, there is no shortage of bad ideas these days when it comes to parenting. While there is a lot of good programming on television that is great to watch as a family, it’s a double edged sword. There’s a lot of really bad stuff that kids can accidentally watch and you do not want that to happen. Perhaps the best advice I can give is for you to take up a hobby with your kids. If they like to ride horses, go horseback riding. If they like technology, maybe take a trip to Apple’s Headquarters and get a tour of their facilities, or just go to their store at the local mall. If they like science fiction, perhaps buy a telescope and take up astronomy as a family hobby. In fact, really good telescopes can be cheap, check out this site for example: http://celestron-127eq-powerseeker-telescope.com

While parenting can be challenging, learning positive techniques and skills is incredibly important to being a great parent to your kid. If you fill your parenting toolkit with information and insights into age-appropriate behaviors and methods, you will become a more effective and capable parent.

While devoting time to your children is important, taking time for yourself is essential, too. Occasional time alone will help you maintain your own identity.

Parents should not pressure their teens to attend a college that the student isn’t interested in attending. Teenagers under pressure tend to choose op-positionally and veer off in unexpected directions in an attempt to avoid being controlled.

Make sure never to get a toddler or child soda of any kind. Concentrate on offering your child beverages that include vitamins and other nutrients, such as water, sugar-free juices and milk. If there are children living under your roof, avoid smoking indoors. Actually, consider quitting altogether. Secondhand smoke affects health just as much as firsthand. Children who are exposed to second-hand smoke experience more risk in developing respiratory problems, such as asthma, bronchitis or pneumonia.

Focus on creating a clear, positive set of household rules without being too prohibitive. Try to give your kids some good chores to do around the house and reward them with some money or just some love and attention. This makes it easier for all family members to coexist peacefully. Try telling your child what they should do rather than what they shouldn’t. “Walk slowly” is a better way of saying “Don’t run.”

If you are going to take your children on a long road trip, stop as often as you can to keep them from getting too cranky. While it might be tempting to try to get to your destination as quickly as possible, taking a more leisurely approach results in less fussing from the backseat! Make your road trip a fun experience for your kids by stopping at a park or restaurant with play area and letting them play.

Toddlers often have more toys than they can possibly play with. Rotate them in and out of their toy box to keep them new and interesting. Unless a toddler considers a particular toy to be an absolute favorite, he or she will likely lose interest in it in a day or two. Rotating other toys keeps the newness and novelty of the toys fresh for your toddler, and keeps you from constantly adding more toys to their collection. By reading this article, you should have learned some great ideas for becoming a more effective parent. You will never have every answer instantly available to you, but searching a few key resources just might help you to get the answers you need.

The Best Ways to Stream TV Online (and Movies Too!)

If you are like me you are sick and tired of paying the cable company $150 a month to watch your favorite shows. It’s ridiculous what these people are charging regular people these days. Not everyone drives a Lexus on their way to work, you know? When I got laid off and my husband Gerry was the only one with an income, we had to think of great ways to stretch our dollar. The cable bill was one of the first things we looked at cutting, but we needed an alternative because we both like to watch television shows and movies.

So the first thing we did is we went out and bought a Roku. We looked at the Apple TV too and it looked like a great device but we got a better deal on the Roku and it supported HD and had all the features we were looking for. Anyways, once we had the Roku we were able to use the apps inside of it, including Netflix and Hulu. These were apps we were using anyways but because we stopped our cable bill we subscribed to Hulu Plus which allows you access to all the shows. Hulu is great because they carry shows sometimes the day after they air on television, and Netflix only carries shows after they’ve appeared on BluRay or DVD.

Just by doing this we cut about $120 from our budget. Just like that! You can too! Yes, we can still watch pretty much all the shows we want to and we have so many movies to choose from we don’t feel like we’re missing out on much. The only downside right now is HBO because you have to be subscribed to HBO on a cable plan to get access to HBO GO which looks amazing.

So if you want a great tip and want to save yourself a lot of money every month, get rid of that cable bill and go out and get a Roku or Apple TV and sign up for Netflix and Hulu Plus. You won’t regret it!

Here is the hilarious commercial from Hulu if you haven’t seen it already…
